Reciprocating piston compressor is the development of various types of compressors the earliest, the 1500 BC China invented wood bellows for reciprocating piston compressor prototype. At the end of 18th century, Britain made the first industrial reciprocating piston air compressor. The 1930s began to appear labyrinth compressors, followed by a variety of oil-free lubrication compressors and diaphragm compressors. In the 50 's the appearance of the dynamic structure of large reciprocating piston compressor size greatly reduced, and realized a single machine more use.

Reciprocating piston compressors have a variety of classification methods.

①According to the transmission mode is divided into shaft drive and non shaft drive two categories. The shaft-driven reciprocating piston compressor is divided into two kinds, the crankshaft drive and the non crank drive. In the crankshaft-driven class, a reciprocating piston compressor with no crosshead rotates directly through the connecting rod to make reciprocating movement in the cylinder; the other is a reciprocating piston compressor with a crosshead, and the connecting rod is driven by a cross head to make reciprocating movement. Non-axial reciprocating piston compressors usually refer to free piston compressors and electromagnetic drive piston compressors. Electromagnetic drive is driven by the rotor of the linear motor directly under the action of magnetic force piston in the cylinder reciprocating movement, so as to achieve the compressed gas.
